FAQs on Family Dentistry

Dental health varies from person to person; a general rule for adult patients without periodontal disease is to visit a dentist every six months.  Even if you feel your mouth is in excellent condition, you may be unaware of decay or other problems.

You should brush you teeth each time you eat. But, twice per day is optimal, however, if you are only brushing once, make sure it is at night before bed.  Saliva levels drop during sleep which decreases the natural rinsing of your teeth and allows for more acid build-up.

Dental problems, like decay (cavities), are not typically visible by any other methods unless the problem or cavity is large or the surface of the tooth has broken.

Yes! There is no getting around the need to floss daily.  Flossing clears food and plaque from between teeth and under the gumline. If you don’t floss, plaque hardens into tarter which can breakdown the teeth and gums.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends taking your child to the dentist when the first tooth appears, or, at the least around their first birthday.  This helps catch potential problems and seeing the dentist early familiarizes the child with our dental family.

Most children begin losing their baby teeth between the ages of five and six years old.

Sealants are a protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of the teeth.  According to the ADA (American Dental Association), sealants are an effective way to prevent tooth decay.
